I was originally looking for an iPhone case with an open back. When I found this case, I thought the backing was some kind of breathable mesh material, so I purchased it. But after opening the package, I realized it was just a hard piece of slightly translucent plastic. So I removed the backing of the case, as shown in my photos. Why in the world would you want to destroy a perfectly good piece of plastic?!There are a five reasons why I removed the backing of the case:?1. With the backing of the case in place, as designed, it won’t allow me to charge my iPhone with a wireless charger.I tried wireless-charging my iPhone, and with the backing in the case, it just won’t charge. I tried everything, and every position. In order to charge my phone in the way the case came, I would’ve had to remove the case every time I wanted to wirelessly charge my iPhone. Removing the case makes my iPhone vulnerable to my clumsy hands and sliding off surfaces. Also, I’m too lazy to remove the case every time I want to charge my iPhone.?2. The iPhone has the potential of overheating, and the heat will ruin the battery. All my iPhones seem to overheat, and I discovered that the one thing they all have in common is that I buy cases for them.Removing the backing gives my iPhone ventilation to breath. These iPhones are becoming more powerful; and with that power, they have a tendency to overheat. By trapping the heat inside the case, the heat builds up around the battery, which shortens its life. Continuous overheating can potentially cause damage to the battery, as well as important and sensitive components inside the iPhone.?3. The case prevents you from feeling the back. How will we know our iPhone is overheating? Look at it like your iPhone has a fever. Fever is a symptom that can lead to more serious health conditions. But we need to feel the forehead or take a temperature with a thermometer. If we cannot feel the heat, then the first signs of overheating are battery-related activity. The resource consuming apps will begin shutting off. The iPhone will begin turning off. Your battery will begin to drain faster and take longer to charge. Eventually, your iPhone may not even turn back on.For this reason, it is important to be able to feel if the device is overheating. When my older iPhone 6S+ was overheating, it began acting funny. With extensive research and countless complaints, I’ve discovered that the iPhone 6S+ may have had bad batteries to begin with. But if I had been able to feel the back of the iPhone overheating, I would’ve turned my iPhone off sooner and prevented serious damage to the battery. I can’t even remember why I removed the case (and it was a different case not related to this company). I discovered that the case was shielding me from the heat. Removing the backing offers easy access to the back of the phone, where I can easily and instantly feel if it is getting too hot. It’s better to reduce your iPhone’s fever to prevent damage, than wait for more serious symptoms to appear. But you won’t know your iPhone has a fever without feeling for it’s temperature. The backing offers a delusion of a healthy iPhone. ?4. It allows me to hold my hand fan to the back, if it becomes too hot. The only way I can prevent my iPhone 6S+ from beginning to overheat while using it is by holding a hand fan to the back of the iPhone. I plan on looking for a case for the 6S+, so I can remove the backing. But I’m not sure if this company also offers this case for the iPhone 6S+. But meanwhile, my iPhone is naked, so I can have full access to the back. In fact, it was the issues of my iPhone 6S+ that sent me searching for a backless case for my iPhone SE3.If my iPhone SE3 overheats, I’d like to know that I can easily reach for the hand fan and cool off the back of my iPhone before damage occurs to the battery. Removing the backing offers instant access to the heat source with a fan.?5. I can’t touch the back of the iPhone with the backing on the case.“Why do you want to touch the back of your iPhone, Weirdo?”Here’s a cool and awesome tip for ya!: So, if you go into the settings on your recently updated iPhone…scroll down to Accessibility…scroll down to Touch…then scroll alllll the way to the bottom, you will see “Back Tap”. What’s Back-Tap? It’s one more secret passageway to shortcuts.Back-Tap offers both Double-tap and Triple-tap, which will allow two more shortcuts to cool features such as system commands, Siri, camera, and even Siri Shortcuts. I have my double-tap set up to toggle off and on the floating assistive-touch button, so it’s not always in my way on this new smaller iPhone. I have the triple-touch to access app-switcher…for now; until I need it for something else. But if your iPhone’s back is covered, you cannot back-tap. This is one more reason why I needed to remove the backing of my iPhone case. All these reasons justified the risk I took when removing the back of the case. I don’t regret that decision for a second.❓?So, how Did you removed the back?Truth be told, I initially attempted to cut it off. These cases could not easily be cut with a razor knife. It took me several hard strokes before I even made a scratch. Fortunately, I noticed the two plastics separating, and completed the task with a blow dryer.I heated the seams of the backing on both inside and outside of the case with my blow dryer, and began separating it by carefully bending the seams between the two plastics. It took a few minutes of wrestling with the case. The backing and case have a tongue-in-groove design. So if for some odd reason you want to replace the backing, you can add a tiny bit of glue in the groove and slip it back in place. After a bit of bending and pulling, melting the adhesive and bending more, the plastics began to separate. Finally, they pulled apart, and no damage was done to the case. It looks like it was designed this way.❓?If you removed the backing with a blow dryer, doesn’t that mean this case is cheaply made?If your backing is separating from the case through normal wear and tear, I will have to warn you that your iPhone is seriously overheating, or you are using or storing the iPhone in a place that is much too hot. Either way, normal case/backing separation would be symptomatic of serious iPhone damage that has already initiated.❓?How does the case look? Will it make me look like a geek?I do like the appearance of the altered case. Before I removed the back, I could only see my red phone around the camera. But even then, the case looked nice. Now I have this cool blue-on-red appearance that makes it more fun to use. Besides, what’s the use of paying all that money for a red iphone if I can’t see the cool red color? ?❓?Besides the backing, what’s your opinion? This iPhone case is very durable. With all the heat I applied to the case, there was no melting, deformation or damage to the case. I had to apply a lot of heat to the bond, before it began to soften enough to give way. These cases are very rugged. And what’s more important is these cases protect our iPhone when we drop them. iPhones without protective cases are more slippery than an oiled piglet (I assume…I’ve never handled an oiled piglet). Just setting my iPhone on a flat surface causes this iPhone SE3 to slide off and onto the ground. Fortunately, my feet were there to catch the fall. And I don’t know how many times the iPhone has slipped off my lap without a case. These cases have a rubbery coating to prevent slipping and sliding; and they do protect the device from breaking when they are dropped by clumsy people like me. It even protects the screensaver from cracking.Since I have installed this case after removing the backing, I’ve dropped my phone a few times already. My iPhone is in great shape, protected by the case; and it doesn’t slip off my lap or flat surface, any more!❗️?ConclusionIf these guys are smart, they will omit the backing of some … or all of the cases. They will sell like hotcakes! But until then, I do recommend this case, due to the separate yet secure back section that can be removed.
